Reigning champion Maria Bueno (BRA) did not defend her title, as she was suffering from jaundice. Angela Mortimer Barrett (GBR) defeated Christine Truman Janes (GBR) 4–6, 6–4, 7–5 in the final to win the Ladies' Singles tennis title at the 1961 Wimbledon Championships. It was the last all-British final to date. The tournament was also notable on the first Grand Slam appearance of future World No. 1 Billie Jean Moffit (later King). ==Seeds== The seeded players are listed below.
